Revisiting and Remembering Lot 17 Burial Ground in Damascus, Ohio

DSC_0993
In a quiet patch of land just south of U.S. Route 62 in Damascus lie the interred remains of many Quakers, people who lived and died at least 150 years ago. When members of Damascus Friends Church decided to expand their church building, the place, known as the Lot 17 Burying Ground, was directly in the path of that expansion.

Homes of the Rebel Sharpshooter

DSC_0181
On our recent visit to Gettysburg, the DSGT team visited Devil’s Den and the Slaughter Pen, both two different areas of the battlefield which are considered to be “Homes of the Rebel Sharpshooter”.   Is it possible that a soldier could die in two separate locations, and be photographed in both locations, in 1863?  (Of course we had to go there and get our picture taken as well…)

Gettysburg Address - Reenactment

11667383_10207364523259737_5273260513396855623_n
One of the things the group did while in Gettysburg during the summer of 2015 was to reenact the reciting of the Gettysburg Address.  Of course, we all had our recorders going at the time to see if we stirred anything up, and what most people don’t know, the Gettysburg Address was actually given within the confines of an established cemetery, not the Soldiers’ National Cemetery.

The Angel of Gettysburg

DSC_0035
When people talk about women of Gettysburg, the most prominent resident that comes to mind is that of Miss Virginia “Jennie” Wade; however, there is a story that is even as compelling than that of Miss Jenny, and that is the story of Elizabeth Masser Thorn.

The Haymarket Massacre - The Birth of Labor Day

The Haymarket affair (also known as the Haymarket massacre or Haymarket riot) was the aftermath of a bombing that took place at a labor demonstration on Tuesday May 4, 1886, at Haymarket Square in Chicago. It began as a peaceful rally in support of workers striking for an eight-hour day and in reaction to the killing of several workers by the police, the previous day. An unknown person threw a dynamite bomb at police as they acted to disperse the public meeting. The bomb blast and ensuing gunfire resulted in the deaths of seven police officers and at least four civilians; scores of others were wounded.

Using your Xbox Kinect for Paranormal Investigations

You’ve probably heard of Xbox Kinect. Chances are you know at least one person who owns one, or you own one yourself. Microsoft developed the Xbox Kinect as a webcam-style add-on peripheral device that enables users to control and interact with their console or computer without the need for a controller, through a 'natural user interface' using gestures and spoken commands. Over 10 million units of the kinect have been sold worldwide. This popular gaming device isn’t just being used for video games anymore, however. People around the world have found an unexpected use for it- to detect ghosts.

The Rothwell Bone Crypt

The Rothwell Bone Crypt

Built during the 13th century, Holy Trinity Church is a medieval landmark in the town of Rothwell, England. However, beneath the church is a charnel chapel containing one of the creepiest sights ever found inside a place of worship: an entire room stacked with human bones.

Chinese Bound Feet

How it worked

The foot binding process was started before the arch of the foot had a chance to develop fully, usually between the ages of 2 and 5. Binding usually started during the winter months since the feet were more likely to be numb, and therefore the pain would not be as extreme.

How Was Stonehenge Built?

StonehengeSunrise

When thinking about a topic for #MysteriousMonday, one place immediately came to mind.  That place would be Stonehenge.   Not that it is mysterious that it exists, but the mystery on how it could have been built some 3000 - 5000 years ago.  With a little bit of research we came across a website for Stonehenge that describes the four steps or stages that is believed to have taken place in the building of this fascinating and yet mysterious location.

Ghost Hunting Theories

autumn

Here is an interesting blog site by author Sharon Day that houses a barrage of items pertaining to the paranormal.  I did not get much time to look through the entire site, but some of the headings at the top seemed interesting.  Bigfoot, Ghosts, Theories, Videos.  Will definitely come back to this site for some research and more information.

Give it a gander.
